"Powerfully moving and consistently funny. An unadulterated pleasure. If there is a show that can make the case for a Tony Award for best ensemble, it’s this one."

I laughed I cried...
"Such a simple set, such a simple production. Such a powerful delivery. A message of the possibilities of solidarity and love. Not dogmatic, not strident. It helped me remember that there really are still good, smart, decent people. We all need to unite to continue the march toward universal brotherhood, sisterhood, humanity. "

For our mothers….
"I Saw the play Liberation...Wow!! For me, it carries the echo of my mother's life and convictions. I felt her legacy threaded through many moments. I believe the audience was filled with many women with the same sentiment. My Mom would have loved it❤️"

Inspiring show
"I left inspired to continue pushing for women’s rights. I loved that the show was funny and emotional. The acting was superb. One suggestion I have (if I can be so bold) is to have a totally different actress play the older mother instead of an actress who we’ve already experienced. Not that she wasn’t good; at that moment I expected the mother to come in from back stage. The actress who played the younger mother was great. "

Act two is remarkable
"At Intermission, I was afraid the play was giving a shallow view of the 70s scene, but the 2nd Act redeemed all. Very moving exploration of converging opinions and options. The excellent ensemble acting elevated my experience. I lived the events that inspired the playwright. It meant a lot for me to see this play at this moment. I was lucky to see it with my neighbor and we both took away a lot from the show. A friend had told me to grab a girlfriend and go. So glad I did."

Profound and moving
"I came of age in the 70’s. Liberation spoke to my heart. Women did not have the choices in the past that we have today. But if we are not careful, those choices will be taken away. They already are! Women must stick together to demand equality. I loved this show!"

A Bridge Across the Ages
"A group of six of us, two seniors, friends since elementary school, my grown daughter, and three of her friends, enjoyed this passionate performance together. The mix of emotions it evoked and the lively dinner conversation following were unanticipated and, well, liberating! We all concluded that this generation bridging performance was both inspiring and thought-provoking, albeit for our own reasons. Keep putting your bricks in the wall, people! I challenge you to see LIBERATION. Consider how each generation has more in common with the previous than we realize...but a word of caution: It may not be for the reasons you imagine! There is some nudity, but don't let that deter you. Just go, you'll see what I mean! "

Best play I have seen in a decade
"This creative telling of the struggle for equal rights by our mothers is a must see for all! I do hope a young student-friendly version is produced, because the message is so powerful and told in a disarming, compassionate way with humor, love and a lot of respect for the women who came before us. Laughing. Crying. Sobbing. Reeling.
"Liberation is the beautiful and timeless story of women fighting for the right to exist equally in the world. The tension between what that looks like to the outside world, and what that even looks like amongst themselves is among the primary themes of this hysterical and heart grabbing play. If this doesn’t win a Tony, the committee should quite simply be fired. "

Incredibly Powerful + Nuanced
"I absolutely LOVED this play. It was powerful, raw, and nuanced -- and hit so close to home! Beautiful (albeit complicated) commentary on society and the women's movement at large -- past, present, and future. I cried a lot... and absolutely loved it. It'll make you call your mom. "

The show reminded me of my own involvement in Women's Liberation.
"The actors were wonderful and the content was informative and funny at times. The play brought up many of the issues we grappled with in the 1970s and, like us, solved only a few of them."

A liberating Perspective
"What daughter hasn’t wondered what her mother was like when she was young? What did she care about, dream about? That’s the premise of Liberation. It’s a beautifully written play with actors who really care about the material. I loved it. "

Honest and provocative
"I saw Liberation for a second time and it was even better. I wanted to take my daughter - it is such an important subject and great for a mother daughter moment. The writing and acting are superb. And the staging and production amazing, the way characters seamlessly go in and out of character. I also appreciated the play’s attempt to deal with difficult subjects in the feminist movement like race and sexualmorientation."

About Liberation

It's 1970: somewhere in Ohio, six women meet on a basement basketball court, determined to shake up their lives and change the world. Fifty years later, one of their daughters tries to understand where things fell apart. A provocative, wildly theatrical world premiere that poses vital questions about friendship, legacy, and the true meaning of liberation.
